Faculty of Mass Communication

The Faculty of Mass Communication is established to meet the growing need of the Egyptian and Arab media for qualified journalists and communicators. Globalization and the rapid growth of communication technology require distinguished types of skilled communicators that can adapt to the global changes. The Faculty has initiated a new and updated program of accumulated skills to educate and train candidates for significant careers.

Mass communication students acquire general knowledge in various humanities and social sciences to support their mass communication specialization.  The students can choose from a variety of faculty and department courses according to their preferences as principles of design, music, political science, applied arts, ancient and modern history, sociology, etc.

The faculty of mass communication is oriented towards skill building: skills in Multimedia, on-line communication, graphic design, research, translation and TV directing. 

Academic Program

The Mass Communication program offers a four-year course leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication. The student must complete a total of 45 courses (138 credit hours) for graduation. Passing a typing exam (20W/minute) within the first year is a must for declaring a major in mass communication.

Objectives

The unique characteristics of the new mass communication curriculum allow the faculty to prepare its graduates for the challenges of the new millennium. Through the untraditional three majors, students become qualified to produce   specialized communication programs using the latest technology.

The major of Print and Electronic Journalism qualifies the student to become a specialized journalist capable of preparing and producing news programs effectively for the different media: newspapers, magazines, websites, radio and television.  The student learns the latest print and electronic graphic designs and layouts in the Mac lab.

The major of Radio and Television aims at building the students skills to produce radio and television programs, promos  and films. Throughout the different production classes, the student will learn how to use the camera and produce programs according to the latest technology using our new digital studio. 

The major of Integrated Marketing Communication has incorporated all the tools needed for producing effective promotion campaigns. 
The student masters print, online and television production of advertisements as well as managing public relations campaigns. In the Mac lab and the digital studio, the student learns the basic software needed for producing print and electronic promotional material.

You will be a special graduate who masters the latest technologies in the field of communication like multimedia, graphic design and web design tools and techniques, in addition to digital production and editing.

Mass Communication department qualifies you to work in Egyptian, Arab and foreign print and electronic media. You can work efficiently and successfully in various fields of marketing, advertising and public relations.

Accreditation

By the decree No. 117 of the Ministry of Higher Education on 19/12/1999, the faculty was accredited to grant the Bachelor of Mass Communication. The areas of specialization are: Journalism, Radio & Television, Public Relations and Advertising.
